Welcome, explorer.
Turn what you are studying into something you can see, count, question and remember. Start with five minutes, wherever you are.

Get a short activity, start the timer and put your phone away. A seat or closed window works too.
Save your observations and questions in your notebook. Return to them before your next discovery.
Make a lesson concrete with a short activity you can do close to home.
Turn a free afternoon into a shared discovery, with questions to talk about together.
Prepare a group activity with materials, leader guidance and a printable card.
Start with your own question. Get a clear explanation and, when it fits, a short observation you can try.

Name a spot on your next card, record what you observed, then use Return to this spot to test an idea.
Backups include your notes and attached photos. Keep them private. Import adds missing cards and keeps existing cards unchanged.
Use OutsideClass for independent learning, family time or your next lesson.
Choose “By a window” for observations indoors at a closed window. Choose “From a seat” to request steps without walking, standing or reaching far.
OutsideClass AI is our learning assistant, powered by Google-hosted Gemma models. It can make mistakes. Google processes the questions and selected images you send; your local profile and other notebook photos are not automatically included.
The Activities page includes three ready-made cards. After your first online visit, cached pages, sample activities and saved notebook entries can work offline in supported browsers.
Give your spot a nickname on the Activities page. After you return, write what you noticed, what you think it means and another possible reason. Save the reflection, open your Notebook and choose “Return to this spot.” Check the weather again before generating the new activity. Your earlier answers are sent to OutsideClass AI, processed by Google, for that request.
Only in this browser on this device. They do not sync between devices. Clearing browser data deletes them. Print a card to keep a paper copy, or download a notebook backup with your photos. At 100 cards, new saves stop until you make room; existing cards are kept.
Open Notebook and choose Download notebook backup. Keep the JSON file somewhere private. On the other device, open OutsideClass, go to Notebook and choose Import backup or activity pack. Your cards, reflections, practice results and photos are restored. Existing cards are kept. This is a manual backup, not automatic cloud sync.
Your question and form choices are sent when you ask for a card. A spot name should be a nickname, never an address. Follow-ups include the earlier question and answer; return visits include the displayed earlier observation context. Question images are included only when you select them and confirm consent. Other notebook photos are not automatically sent. Avoid personal details in questions, observations and images.
Notebook storage is local to your browser. A downloaded backup or learner work file contains your notes and photos, so only share it with people you choose. Activity packs exclude personal reflections, photos, learner labels and earlier context.
The timer checks elapsed time when you return, but it does not send a background alarm. Use your phone’s alarm if you need a sound while the screen is locked.
An adult should review the AI-generated activity, check conditions and access needs, agree boundaries and keep learners in sight. Stop if conditions are unsafe.

OutsideClass AI is now the name of our learning assistant in the interface. It uses Google-hosted Gemma models; questions and consented images are still processed by Google.
The website and RSS feed now come from the same published posts, so readers see the same titles, dates and information in both places.
Before deciding why something happened, write what you actually noticed and consider a second explanation.
Try describing a leaf, a tile or a shadow without guessing its cause. Then write one possible explanation and another that could also fit what you saw.
Choose one safe observation that could help you tell those explanations apart. If you cannot test them today, save the question for your next visit. This is a learning suggestion, not a report of a completed outdoor lesson.
Choose a closed window or a seated activity when conditions outside are unsafe.
Select By a window, From a seat and Rainy in Activities. Use a safe indoor view or familiar, unbreakable objects. Keep windows closed and do not lean out.
You can compare shapes or count visible patterns without going outside. An adult should review activities for children; stop if the place or conditions feel unsafe.
Choose a nickname and optional role for a personal greeting and notebook label. No login, phone number or code. Profiles stay local, outside AI requests and downloaded work.
Refreshed offline pages, full-notebook protection, draft preservation, practice results in learner work exports, and clearer small-screen controls.
Back up and restore your notebook with photos, practise with understanding checks, compare discoveries, exchange class packs and optionally ask about selected images with explicit consent.
Ask a learning question up to 600 characters. Get an observation activity when it fits, or a direct explanation, and ask a follow-up. Selected topics include external reference-image sources.
Supported topics include downloadable learning diagrams. Attach up to two personal photos or sketches from the top of each card and save them locally, even before writing a reflection.
Name a spot, record an observation and two possible explanations, then return to check what changed. OutsideClass AI builds a fresh activity from your earlier note.
Explore dedicated activity, notebook and guide pages. Use the new activity timer with pause, resume and reflection. Group activities, accessible spaces and manual weather choices help fit learning to your day.
Family and class activities include leader guidance and discussion questions. Choose a seat, window or doorway, and match activities to weather and time of day.
Record what you noticed, what surprised you and one question you still have. Existing notebook entries remain readable.
